Smart Driver Log

Occupational driving log

A clear trip record for work-only or restricted driving—built for Texas ODL and similar programs in other states.

What this log is for

Many people are allowed to drive only for specific purposes—often work, school, or essential needs—under an occupational, restricted, or hardship license. Courts or agencies may expect you to keep a written record of those trips: where you went, when, and how far.

Names and rules differ by state. In Texas this is commonly called an occupational driver's license (ODL). Elsewhere you may see “restricted license,” “hardship license,” or similar terms. Always follow your own court order, DMV/DPS guidance, and local requirements.

Why people need one

Occupational or restricted driving privileges are often tied to a court or agency order. That can follow certain traffic or criminal offenses, license suspensions, or other situations where full driving privileges are limited but limited work or essential travel is allowed. Some people also keep a log simply to stay organized under strict conditions.

Smart Driver Log does not decide whether you qualify for a license and is not legal advice. It helps you record trips clearly so you can show a clean log when asked.

Texas ODL example

Texas ODL holders often need a dependable way to log occupational trips and present that record—sometimes on a tablet at a traffic stop. Smart Driver Log started with that use case: fast entry on a phone, View Logs and PDF export on a tablet, including offline export after you sync once online.

Other states

If your state uses a different name or form, the same workflow still helps: log departure and arrival places, times, and odometer miles, then export a PDF or CSV. Confirm what your order or agency requires; we provide the logging tool, not compliance advice for every jurisdiction.

How Smart Driver Log helps

  • Log trips on your phone with places, times, and whole-mile odometer readings.
  • Save frequent locations for faster entry.
  • Open View Logs on a tablet, export PDF for an officer, or CSV for your records.
  • Sync View Logs while online so you can still view and export offline later on that device.
